Livestock farming is of great economic value in the Netherlands. Many agricultural companies keep animals in very large stable complexes which are divided into compartments. When a fire breaks out in such a complex, a fire should be limited to a single compartment, but as people are not always present in the rooms, a starting fire should be able to be detected automatically.

Thermal cable systems, such as the LIST Sensor cable system and the FireLaser fibre optic Distributed Temperature Sensing system, are extremely suitable for this, as they are completely insensitive to dust, moisture and ammonia vapors. LHD systems can detect a fire anywhere along the length of the linear heat sensing cable, over a distance of several kilometers. SenseTek utilises Bandweaver Firelaser fiber optic DTS, one of the key technologies available within the field of linear heat detection cable systems.
