Modern buildings are mostly installed with elevator shafts without separate control rooms. Therefore all the technology is installed in the elevator shafts. Because of this it is necessary to install a fire detection system in the elevator shaft.
Most of the time it is highly discouraged to enter an elevator shaft. This means that maintenance works on fire detection systems can be very hard. An extra problem is the difference in air pressure when the elevator moves up and down. This movement will cause smoke to move unpredictably. Stratos aspirating devices can be installed outside of the elevator shaft for easy access and maintenance. By installing the aspirating pipes vertically in the elevator shaft, the pressure fluctuations from the elevator moving up and down are eliminated so that smoke under and above the elevator cage will be detected instantly.
